Shoes for Zumba

The best advise I can give you is to use shoes with a very smooth sole. Please do not wear running shoes, as their threads are too deep and grip the floor, risking knee injury when dancing. Even if you have old sneakers with well-worn treads, choose those over running shoes. 

I suggest to check out Nike, who makes different styles of fitness/dance shoes. They all have a colored circle on the sole of the shoe located on the ball of the foot under the big toe.  This circle is flat with no traction and the total sole has low traction.

 

  Tips for a Safe Class

  • Drink PLENTY OF WATER before, during and after class. Hydration is very important when performing aerobic exercise.
  • Take your time learning the choreographies. I usually leave songs for a while, so you have the opportunity to practice it many times.
  • Please do not remove your shoes because you need the support of the athletic shoe to keep your feet, back and hips safe.
  • In general, when making turns, soften your knees and engage your abdominals. Also, try to pick up your feet like you are walking.
  • Zumba is all about having FUN while getting FIT! There are NO MISTAKES in Zumba! As long as you're BREATHING, as long as you're MOVING, as long as you're HAVING FUN, you're doing Zumba correctly!
